Appam has always been one of my favorite morning recipes not because its tasty but also healthy and can be prepared with different combinations like sweet, spicy with different stuffings. Appam can be made in different ways fermented batter/ instant semolina batter etc. Today I would be sharing with you all the instant way of preparing Rava appam.
Cooking Time: 30 mins
Preparation Time: 15mins
1 cup semolina/rava
1 cup sour buttermilk
1 tbsp roasted chana dal
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp curry leaves
1/2 cup chopped coriander leaves
1/2 cup chopped veggies (onion, green peas, carrots)
1 tsp baking soda or fruit salt
1 tsp chopped green chillies
1 cup oil
In a big mixing bowl take semolina and whisked curd. Mix it well and keep aside for about 15 mins. If batter thick add 1-2 tsp of water.
After about 15 mins, add the chopped veggies to the semolina batter.
In a small wok, add oil for tempering purpose, then further add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, roasted chana dal, green chillies and curry leaves to the wok.
Now pour this tempering mixture to the semolina batter. Add salt to taste and 1 tsp of soda and mix well. Allow it to rest.
Garnish it with chopped coriander leaves.
Preheat an appam maker and pour little oil in its each mold.
Fill each mold with the batter now.
Cover and let them simmer for 3 minutes on low-medium flame.
When the appams get golden brown from beneath, flip the side and continue cooking until golden brown from this side as well. It can take 2 minutes. Cook the appams until they get golden brown on both the sides.
Take out the roasted appams in a plate and similarly prepare the rest as well.
Ready to Serve:
Mouth drooling & steamy rawa appams are ready. Serve them steaming hot with green coriander chutney, sweet chutney, tomato sauce or any other chutney as per your desire and taste and relish eating.
